Every year we aim to provide, fund and organise a holiday for the members, providing the families that go on holiday to Wydale Hall, Scarborough with; professional care and respite for the parents, whilst the children are able to take full part in all the day-to-day activities and recreational fun that they should expect from a holiday including; sports days, outings to the beach, discos, Flamingoland day trip, fancy dress evening, talent night, arts and crafts workshops and much, much more.
Parents/carers are free to take part in whatever activities they choose but once they arrive at Wydale Hall they mostly opt to use the time to rest, enjoy the stunning, relaxing surroundings, visit local towns and join in at certain points of the morning and evening. We also run a system of night-watch and morning-watch which will secure one-one care and supervision from a volunteer at such times while the parent/carer can relax knowing their child is in good care and only a room away. We arrange evenings for the parents/carers too eg Bingo Night and an Evening Out. This is alongside a full day of respite where we take the children away to Flamingoland.
The recent holiday in 2015 was the best we have organised and delivered. Parents/carers feedback was that the holiday we offered in 2015 was "the best holiday they have ever had" and have "never felt so relaxed after a family holiday before". Due to the safe, nurturing and all-inclusive environment we provide we often have parents/carers say "it is very difficult to find this type of support and event and are so thankful to be part of it". For some, it is the only respite that they get from the struggles they face day to day – a chance to relax away from their children, on a holiday, every day and still be part of the holiday/activities.
